Recent events have confirmed the reality of the iPhone 5, but the physical existence of it is something of another matter. Here are the last iPhone 5 rumors and rumblings you’ll get before Apple’s official Oct. 4 event. Short and simple details follow …

So what makes the mythical iPhone 5 a reality? A few interesting leaks have occurred that prove its existence, the most notable being AT&T stores receiving silicon cases to fit the iPhone 5, shaped to match the teardrop-style tapered design that until now was the only leak about the iPhone 5. Additionally, regional cellphone carrier Cincinnati Bell accidentally leaked pricing and specifications of the rumored iPhone 5 on its website. According to the details, the iPhone 5 will support 4G speeds, sport an 8 mega-pixel camera and a fancy new 4-inch screen. Whether these specs are correct is right now anyone’s guess. But perhaps most concrete of all evidence is Radio Shack has apparently set up an inventory placeholder for an iPhone 5 for Sprint, of all carriers. Very interesting.

Still, the reality of the iPhone 5 as a tangible object in 2011 should be taken into consideration. Either Apple has been so incredibly secretive with the iPhone  5 that not a single part, piece, screen or manufacturing specification has leaked out, or Apple hasn’t simply started a run for the 2011 time frame. That would mean we’re looking at a 2012 launch, which I predict would come in January. That conflicts with the arrival of iPhone 5 cases, however, so those hopeful that the end of October will find them with a fresh new iPhone 5 may have their prayers answered.
