The VAR Guy is headed to Interop New York 2011, which is conveniently located (at least for our resident blogger) at the Javits Center in midtown Manhattan. It’s a refreshing change of pace from The VAR Guy’s constant traveling outside his home turf. But while the Las Vegas version of Interop is inarguably the more important of the two events, the New York venue still has something to offer attendees (and we’re not talking knishes).

What are the top three trends our resident blogger is looking forward to at Interop NY?

  1. IPv6: It’s here, and like it or not, the inevitable transition to IPv6 will strike deep into the hearts of data centers much like the digital television conversion did in living rooms across the United States. The VAR Guy will be looking for vendors that are supporting IPv6, building IPv6 and offering IPv6 services for their partners. We already know F5 Networks will be sporting IPv6 loud and proud.
  2. Network Virtualization: Ever-increasing in popularity, network virtualization is becoming more and more common in the data center. It’s becoming necessary, too, as more appliances themselves become virtualized. It’s also becoming inefficient and expensive to run so much cable, especially as data center consolidation is on the rise.
  3. WAN Optimization: It’s the invisible presence that has changed users’ Internet experience forever, though you’d never notice it. WAN optimization has brought you everything from mobile web browsing, super-fast VPNs and SaaS that isn’t slow. Our resident blogger will check the correlation between cloud and WAN, and see what WAN opportunities abound for cloud-focused VARs — not to mention Cisco’s moves in the WAN optimization space.

The VAR Guy fully expects a swath of security and network-based device management technologies to be strutting their stuff on the showroom floor, too. But if there’s anything specific you want The VAR Guy to cover, chime in and let him know. He’ll be in and out of meetings, and then live on the expo floor, reporting, schmoozing and keeping a cool profile under his famous fedora.
