Aruba Networks is pushing the support of the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) trend further downstream to assist enterprise branch offices and SME environments with the latest enhancements to its Aruba Instant portfolio.

Aruba Instant is a family of 802.11n access points with Aruba Mobility Controller capabilities virtualized within, giving smaller locations the capabilities of an enterprise-grade wireless network. Two new APs have joined the family — the 900Mbps IAP-134 and IAP-135 — which are designed to handle the increasing amount of high-bandwidth traffic such as video and IP voice.

The Instant family now includes features that enable self-service guest access to the corporate network, enabling visitors or employees to log on to the network using their own devices but with limited permissions, and rogue access point detection on all its APs.

Aruba’s moves are further indicative of the permanence of the BYOD trend. It would seem as though companies are embracing the cost and time savings associated with not having to equip its employees with computers and mobile devices, and any technology that helps ease the pain of the IT department in managing the cornucopia of devices can only serve to push BYOD’s adoption further, no matter what size organization.
