If you’ve been thinking about dabbling in some cloud-based video collaboration services, you might want to check out Polycom’s latest splash with Polycom RealPresence Cloud. Polycom hosts it, you sell it, and the world gets more connected. If it sounds good to you, keep reading …
Polycom is calling RealPresence Cloud a “fully managed, wholesale video collaboration service to accelerate time-to-market with subscription-based offerings.” In plain English, Polycom is bringing a cloud “video-as-a-service” (VaaS) solution to service providers so they can jump-start delivering video solutions to customers. Polycom says it can “equip” service providers with “carrier-grade infrastructure, endpoint and services,” for almost any kind of business. Polycom also understands not everyone wants everything in the cloud, so enterprises can use Polycom’s VaaS in hybrid mode with on-premise solutions.
With no need for an on-premise infrastructure and Polycom doing the heavy lifting, RealPresence Cloud could easily accelerate Polycom’s “video everywhere” ethos. It also makes it easier for partners to differentiate and deliver the cloud solutions to demanding customers. If a customer want to leverage existing endpoints, RealPresence Cloud also supports Lync, IBM SameTime and other “non-standard” TIP-based endpoints.
Inside Polycom’s enormous press release are deeper implications of the service, outlining the benefits of VaaS for business-to-business collaboration. Polycom RealPresence Cloud also strengthens Polycom’s vision with the OVCC for ubiquity in video connectivity regardless of vendor. Even if you’re not working the unified communications space, keep your eyes on Polycom. It’s moving fast and furious to put video into every digital nook and cranny.
